Ontario Convention Center to Host 45th Annual Turfgrass and Landscape Institute

ONTARIO, CA (December 8, 2003) - The 45th Annual Turfgrass and Landscape Institute is coming to the Ontario Convention Center on Wednesday, December 10th. As their largest educational event of the year, more than 800 public and private professional horticulturists are registered to be in attendance.

"We are thrilled to have the Turfgrass and Landscape Institute at the Ontario Convention Center," stated Amita Patel, OCVB's director of sales and marketing. "With more than 400 golf courses in Southern California, this is the perfect place for them to hold their event."

The institute is a one-day event that highlights key issues for those in landscape management, park operations management, golf course management, sports turf management, irrigation management as well as arborists.

The institute will feature "break-out" sessions with more than 80 highly qualified and respected experts from across the country. Topics include:

  • "California's Emerging Environmental Changes: A Framework for Tomorrow," featuring guest speakers Joan Denton, Ph.D., of California Office of Health Hazard Assessment; Dave Burger of Ph.D., of University of California, Davis; and Art Craigmill, Ph.D., University of California, Davis
  • Landscape Management (en Espaņol)
  • Turfgrass and Landscape Management
  • Irrigation Management
  • Sports Turfgrass and Park Management
  • Arboriculture
  • Golf Course Management

The Southern California Turfgrass Council will also be presenting Professional Achievement awards between 8:45 AM and 9 AM to three Inland Empire locals: Fred Eckert of Target Specialty Products; Vic Gibeault, Ph.D., of University of California, Riverside; and Kent Kurtz, Ph.D., of California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.

The Turfgrass and Landscape Institute is co-sponsored by the Southern California Turfgrass Council (SCTC) and the University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE). Hours of the institute are Wednesday, December 10, from 6:30 AM to 4 PM. On-site registration is $135.
