Southern California Clogging Association Taps its Way into the Ontario Convention Center
"The largest number of cloggers in the nation is based in Southern California," said Amita Patel, OVCB's director of sales and marketing. "This event plays a very important role in bringing cloggers together and in introducing this folk art to non-cloggers." Patel estimates the event to provide an economic impact of $41,640.
Also known as "Hillbilly Tapdancing," the art of clogging is a distinctive form of American folk dance. Over the years, however, it has evolved from its original form to a more contemporary form, bringing in people of all ages into the art. As it travels around the country, clogging has also taken up different names and adopted various styles. Despite that, the essential characteristics of clogging are the loud and fast footwork using steel plates at the bottom of the shoes, the fairly rigid torso, and the up and down knee motion
The annual SCCA convention is the largest clogging event in the state of California. The convention will feature workshops for those interested in learning the dance, night dances, a night show staging the clog dance, and a night after party. There will be t-shirts, tank tops, and polo shirts in various sizes for sale at the three-day event.
The convention will start at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, August 27; 9 a.m. on Saturday, August 28; and 10 a.m. on Sunday, August 29. Cost for a three-day package is $40 for SCCA members and $47 for non-members. Rates are half-price for children under 12. For more information and rates for individual workshops and merchandise, please visit www.sccaclogger.com.
