Convention Center Staff Giving Warmth One Blanket at a Time

ONTARIO, Calif., December 11, 2008 – In recognizing the needs of the community at this time of the year, the Ontario Convention Center staff is collecting new, unused blankets for the homeless. Blankets of Love, a program spearheaded by Ontario Convention Center Food & Beverage Director, Victoria VanDamme, will bring some much needed warmth and caring this winter season to the homeless of Ontario.

"With the recent economic and employment developments this year, especially in this area, we wanted to reach out to our community to let people know that we care about them during this holiday season," said VanDamme.  The collection of blankets will go to the homeless at Mercy House Walk-In Center in Ontario. Blankets were listed as one their needed items on their annual holiday list.

"We recognize that homelessness can affect any one of us during this severe economic downturn, and I'm very proud of our Convention Center staff for reaching out to the community during this holiday season. Their caring spirit is the true embodiment of the season," adds Bob Brown, general manager and CEO of the Ontario Convention Center.

Anyone wanting to donate new, unused blankets to the Blankets of Love program can do so at the administrative offices of the Ontario Convention Center located at 2000 E. Convention Center Way, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., or at the Page One Café located at 215 East C Street, adjacent to the Ontario City Library. The Page One Café is open Monday – Thursday from 8 a.m. – 9 p.m., Friday 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.  Blankets will be collected until Wednesday, December 17.  On Thursday, December 18, the staff of the Ontario Convention Center will be handing them out at the Mercy House Walk-In Center holiday party.
