Ontario
Convention and Visitors Bureau Jumps in to
Make History and Gain Worldwide Recognition
Ontario, Calif., Jan. 30, 2010 – The
Ontario Convention and Visitors
Bureau will join forces with
the California Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation & Dance
(CAHPERD) and Jamba Juice to break the Guinness World Record for the
"Most People Jumping/Skipping Rope at the Same Time" on Monday, February 1,
2010.
As an official host site, the Ontario
Convention and Visitors Bureau invites Inland Empire nonprofit organizations,
businesses, service organizations and clubs, community members and even media
staffs to join the mass attempt to make history, while also supporting the
mission to keep California's children healthy and active.
"Hosting a monumental and uniquely-spirited event like
Jamba Jump Day creatively generates awareness for the value of physical fitness
for children of all ages,"
said Bob Brown, Ontario Convention Center and Visitors Bureau President and CEO.
"Our staff will join representatives from the Ontario Police and Fire
Departments with ropes in hand to achieve this historical feat."
The current record is held by 59,000 people in Australia. CAHPERD and Jamba
Juice are aiming for 80,000 Californians to break the Australian record by
simultaneously jumping rope for at least ten minutes.
"Jumpers" – connected by webcast – will join in from over 2,000 sites
throughout the state, in California Congressional offices in Washington, D.C.
and even in Iraq, with a California-based military unit.
CAHPERD and Jamba Juice are leading the event through a partnership with the
American Heart Association's "Jump Rope for Hearts," as well as the California
Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports' "Governor's Challenge."
